A perennial favourite for all, Clif has gone and made an energy bar that tastes more like a carrot cake than the cakes I bake at home. Full of enough energy to get you up the steepest hill, yet tasty enough for any occasion.

When Gary Erickson went on a day-long, 175 mile ride with a friend, he snapped. "I could make a better bar than this!" he decided.

And he did. In his mom's kitchen. To this day, Clif Bars taste deliciously home baked; not least because Gary is still the owner of Clif Bar.

These are delicious bars that taste like real food and come from great ingredients. The steady energy, or moderate glycaemic response, means they're good in training or as snacks. Each 68g bar hasaround 43-45g energy-providing carbohydrates, 5g good fats (no transfats) and 10g building blocks of protein. We tried the chocolate chip and oatmeal and the raisin and walnut flavours; both tasted great. Each has around 250-260cals per bar, which is competitive with other bars in the market. Carrot cake flavour is also available.

They're still awaiting official UK Organic Certification, but claim to use 70% organic ingredients. The fact that the chocolate chip bars are dairy-free will also be a bonus for lactose-intolerant athletes.
